Views Upon The Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Adoption Among Malaysian Schools

Computers shared for two students

Nowadays, the world has change drastically specially when dealing about education as for an example. From 'chalk and talk' era, the world has moved on to another phase where technologies have manipulated teaching and learning process. For me, things have become much easier where you can get information at the tip of your fingers. Other than that, the usage of ICT application in education stream has grown tremendously rapid with the deployment of Smart Schools, e-Learning, portals, subject's courseware and so on. The government especially the Ministry of Education has really put their efforts at most in promoting and supporting the implementation of ICT usage as well as producing knowledgeable Malaysians. Sadly, in spite of great support given by the authorities, still they are many issues and challenges arise.

Chalk and Talk era
Two issues that i would like to point out are the acceptance from teachers, students and parents altogether and also the competency of end-users especially the teachers as subject's coordinator. From my experience , during my years as a school student before, i noticed that my teachers are rarely apply the ICT facilities that have been provided for instance the projectors and the coursewares. Lesson conducted was very dull and plain. In my opinion, i think teachers still has the thought of that regular teaching which requires only the teachers by themselves is more effective rather than aiding their teaching with ICT tools. All the supports will turn as a waste if the teachers do not take advantage with it.

Next issue that limits the successful implementation of ICT application in learning process is that the competency of end-users which is still unsatisfying. Most teachers do not know how to use the ICT teaching aid tools given and only rely on technicians if presence in the school, to set up. This usually takes some time and thus, make teachers especially uninterested to use those applications provided. At some point, sometimes the students can be fast learners as they can be more expert than their own teachers regarding the use of ICT application as they are more curious to know and explore more about new technologies. Supposedly, the teachers by themselves have their own initiatives to learn and discover the ICT world rather than just sit back and wait for the others to start. The educational community especially the teachers should know and realize that the benefits that they could get by using the ICT as a part of their aiding tools for teaching and learning process which eventually ease them, apart from able to capture students' attention and interest.
